Ever since The Flash season 1 finale I’ve been anticipating the return of the series. I mean come on, how do you end a show on a cliffhanger about a black hole threatening to engulf the city? That was pretty mean. And I have so many questions. The main one being how the heck do you recover from a black hole?
Spoilers ahead people! If you are the sort that can create a whole scenario out of the reveal that certain actors have been cast and then consider yourself spoiled, turn back now!
The black hole wasn’t my only concern though. In the final moments of Fast Enough, they killed one of my favourite characters. No, not insecure Eddie Thawne, I’m talking about Dr Harrison Wells. I’m sure I’m not the only one who loved Tom Cavanagh in this role even after it was revealed that he was the Reverse Flash.
Well good news for those of us who mourned the passing of the real Dr Wells in episode 17 Tricksters (I shed a tear, not gonna lie), Tom Cavanagh remains a regular on The Flash and will return as Dr Harrison Wells but obviously not our Wells.
Executive producer Gabrielle Stanton says that Harrison Wells will be back. YAY!!!
“But he’s going to be a very different Harrison Wells than we’ve seen before.”
Not so yay! Stanton said: “We’ve got other worlds. We’ve got other timelines. All I’m going to say is he’s from one of those places.”
So basically Harrison’s character is going to respawn like a glitchy game of DayZ, when you spawn without all the gear your previously collected. He’ll have no love for Barry, Cisco and Caitlin, and may not even know who they are. Shame, I really enjoyed his relationship with those characters.
That’s okay though, at this point I’ll take my Tom Cavanagh anyway I can get him. Even if he came back as the Reverse Flash, I’d accept that, kind of. I just love the way he has that half smile on his face that makes you wonder what the heck he’s up to. Dude just has a ‘don’t trust me face’ and I’m down with that.
“The Flash” has proved that via time travel and alternate universes, the show can play things pretty fast and loose with continuity. After all, fans have seen Barry Allen (Grant Gustin) and Iris (Candice Patton) kiss and Wells kill Cisco (Carlos Valdes) only to see time reverse and the two events undone. Could the same happen for the death of Dr. Wells?” Stanton told TVLine.
Are you excited yet?
