Questions Haven needs to answer in the final 13 episodes

When Haven premièred back in summer 2010 the show posed three main questions in the first season:

  1. Who was Lucy to Audrey?
  2. Who killed the Colorado Kid?
  3. Who created The Troubles?

Though it was thought that Lucy was Audrey’s mother by the season 1 finale, Spiral, we got the answer to the first question. Lucy was Audrey. It was further confirmed in season 2 when Vince and Dave Teagues were forced to admit that they knew more about Audrey and The Troubles than they were letting on.

Soon we learned that Audrey appeared in Haven every 27 years with new memories and a new identity but whoever she was, she always helped the troubled.

With the appearance of the real Audrey Parker and the wiping of her memories, the next important questions were who was Agent Howard and what was the mysterious barn?

The Colorado Kid is alive

Audrey and James Haven

During season 3 we find out that the Colorado Kid was alive and that he was actually Nathan and Sarah’s (a previous version of Audrey) son, James. He was killed – we still don’t know by who – but Lucy placed him into the mysterious barn, which saved his life.

By the end of the season, we learn that by going into the barn willingly Audrey can stop The Troubles for 27 years. Why 27 years? We don’t know. Agent Howard is still a mystery but we know he is connected to the barn and serves as Audrey’s guide. When Nathan kills him it causes the barn to malfunction proving the symbiotic relationship.

In season 4 we meet Audrey’s original self, Mara and find out that she created The Troubles along with her lover, William. It seems they were doing it for shits and giggles but in the first episode of season 5, See No Evil, we get the impression that Mara did it to protect herself. When Nathan asks her why she troubles people she responds with “Why do you carry a gun?”

Haven hasn’t been shy in answering questions unlike Lost, which thrived on answering as few questions as possible. Having revealed who Lucy/Audrey is and who created the troubles. It seemed the only thing left to answer from the first season was who killed the Colorado Kid? And incidentally, did he survive the barn malfunction?

The Dave Teagues mystery

Who or what is Dave Teagues?

Season 5 highlighted that question again whilst posing a new one. Who or what is Dave Teagues and did he kill James? Dave recounts to Vince an occasion when he blacked out, lost some time and woke up beside the dead body of James on the beach. Solving the Colorado Kid murder would tie back in with the Stephen King novel that the series was loosely based on.

Going into the final 13 episodes these are the questions I would like answered. We’ve learned that Dave is from the void and that he is experiencing blackouts and strange visions. I’m thinking that when he has the blackouts he becomes something else and whatever he turns into killed Nathan and Sarah’s son.

I’m sure the writers can add more to Audrey/Mara’s story and with the introduction of William Shatner’s character, I’m sure they will but Dave’s story must be answered.

Maybe we will learn why 27 years is important; maybe we’ll learn how Agent Howard figures into all of this considering he arranged Dave’s adoption. These are interesting questions but considering how they have really played up the Dave, lost time, Croatoan, green mist threads, I really hope we get a satisfying conclusion to that storyline.

The producers have said they believe the fans will be satisfied with the way the show wraps up. I hope they are right.

What about you? What are the questions you want to be answered in the final season?
