Lost Every Man for Himself

30 October, 2006 by PashaO

Season Three, episode 4

The Others perform a sadistic medical procedure on Sawyer in order to prevent him from causing any more mischief.

This is a great improvement on the last three episodes. Although we didn’t get to see Jin, Sun and Sayid, and we don’t know what has happened to them, it was refreshing to have more than one storyline running.

The Others are not the good guys, and I wish they would stop saying that. They say they are not killers, but their continued mind games are just as bad. Their treatment of Sawyer in this episode is a classic example of their mind frakks. First, they tell the poor guy that they’ve installed a pacemaker inside him and that if he mentions it to Kate, she’ll end up with one too. Then Ben shows him that they aren’t even on the same Island, so escape is impossible anyway.

They deliberately allowed Jack to hear Sawyer screaming over the intercom and then had the cheek to ask him to assist them in saving the life of one of their own. Clearly, they have Jack’s number because it’s in his nature to help. Maybe the Others were all born and raised on the island and were experiments themselves, so their behaviour and treatment of other human beings seem normal to them. I found their actions in this episode more disturbing than their previous actions. I’d really like to know what their agenda is, as this particular storyline is getting on my last nerve.

The fact that we get to see what the other losties were up to helped to prevent me from throwing something at the TV. I’ve decided that I don’t want to be riled up whilst watching TV, and yet I find myself watching nail biting, mind bending shows like this. A good episode. Can we save Sayid, Sun and Jin now please!
