Rizzoli and Isles is a procedural cop drama about a homicide detective Jane Rizzoli (Angie Harmon) who teams with medical examiner Maura Isles (Sasha Alexander) to fight crime.
The show also stars Flash Forward’s Lee Thompson Young as Detective Barry Frost and Bruce McGill as Detective Vince Korsak.
Watching the first two episodes I’m reminded of Bones. Despite being an apparently classy lady Maura Isles seems to lack certain social graces just like Bones. Not sure if it’s deliberate given that writer-producer Janet Tamaro also writes for Bones.
Apart from the fact that the partners are both females, another obvious difference is the lack of URST (unrequited, sexual tension), which is a good thing. What with Booth and Bones and Castle and Becket, I’m so over URST right now. In replace of URST is subtext. There have been a couple of scenes where you think they are going to make out. I know it’s not my overactive imagination just deliberately placed subtext for those who go looking for it in female partnerships.
Anyway, worth watching whilst Bones is off the air for the summer.

I agree this is a lot like Bones and feels like a rip off in some parts. The difference is Isles comes across as being simple, whereas Bones is brusque and over confident.

Glad to see I’m not the only one seeing the subtext. And yes, I do believe it is deliberate.
