I asked you to tell me how you survived the rift. Did you find yourself taking sides? Who was more at fault? How easy was it for you to get through the season? Do you still watch Xena?

Who Is More At Fault:
Others fault: Interesting question…….
Look, as much as it pains me to say it, but I think that the person who is most at fault here is Gabrielle! And even right now I do not like myself for saying it. I love Gabrielle. She is the reason that I turn to the show every week (well, used to! Damb channel 10 took it off Aussie viewing!). And if anyone is ready to defend her when she is accused of bad stuff it is me!
But……..
Think about it. She had about a thousand or more hints and nudges to tell her that Hope was evil. Why couldn’t she see it herself? Well, firstly, it isn’t easy to come to terms with the very fact that your child is evil, let alone someone who is destined to destroy the world! She wanted too much to have a good kid. Someone that fought for good like she did. But she didn’t, and that realisation for her alone would have been heartbreak.
So, what I believe she did was unconsciously told her self that her child was good, and so whenever someone else said otherwise she got really defensive. This would explain quite well all of her actions after Hopes birth. In short, her unconsciousness lied to her consciousness about Hope being good.
But, why is this, you ask?
For one simple reason.
She loves Xena too. And Gabrielle would never ever hurt Xena, let alone put her son in danger if she knew she was wrong about her child. But because on the surface she thought her child was good she did all of the things that put both Xena and Solan in danger. However, I reckon that underneath all of that, Gabrielle knew Hope was evil, she just never came to terms with it cos she didn’t want to hurt herself with the pain that would cause.
At least that’s my idea.
So, all in all I say that it was Gab’s fault, but she didn’t do it consciously. Think about it! She never would do something that mean and painful to her best friend on purpose now would she?
And as for Xena’s Gab drag, well, it was Ares who convinced her to kill Gab, but I was a little horrified that she would chose to do it to her ex-best friend in such a painful way! Especially after in the end of Maternal Instincts Gab says, what I think is her best line in the whole history of the show, “I love you Xena”. If only she had stayed around just that little bit longer to see Xena’s reaction! It was one of, “Oh no! My kid is dead, and my best friend has murdered her own child just to get revenge for me, and what do I do? Tell her she isn’t even welcome to speak the name of my dead son!”
All in all, I just wanted to go into the time of ancient Gods so that I could be the shoulders for Xena and Gab to cry on!
I got through the rift still with my love for Gabrielle intact. I thought it was a superb idea with the only fault being a little lack of explanation.
And just for those of you who would like to know my thoughts on the subject, I don’t think Gab and Xena are lesbians. There isn’t much evidence for it, and infact, quite a lot for the opposite because they have both had relationships with guys haven’t they!?!?!
Good on ya creators of Xena. Here’s one major fan saluting you!

The Xena and gabby “rift” was a hard thing to watch I admit. But no friendship is perfect. There’s always problems and arguments. When you hurt your best friend…that is the worst feeling in all the world. The season 3 eps teach us how to forgive. Life’s too short to hold grudges. Gabby was wrong to lie to Xena about killing Hope but can you blame her. What would you do if Xena told you to kill your child. But Gabrielle should have trusted Xena. I’m glad they patched things up but it’s a lesson we won’t soon forget.

Okay, the rift looked bad. REAL bad. But I always knew Xena and Gabrielle would make up (and not just because they were contracted for another season). By the time the rift came around, they knew each other so well and were so accustomed to trusting each other’s motives, I knew it was only a matter of time until the anguish cleared and each could see that the other was just doing what she thought was best. I wasn’t concerned too much with sides (although I sorta think Xena lost more and Gab was more at fault), and I wasn’t fretting over IF they would ever forgive each other. I just felt bad for them that, in each of their moments of darkness, they didn’t even have each other to lean on. I felt sorry for what they had to go through, but I never doubted their friendship could be repaired.

I didn’t like the rift at all, Xena knew Gabby would never give up Hope, but Gabby didn’t have to lie all the time. I also thought they ended it badly, it built up all season but ended in one song.

Who Is More At Fault: The Writers
I don’t think it was either Xena or Gabrielle’s fault, I specified the writers. Because if they hadn’t written that Xena was evil then showed the birth of Solan… I mean, if Xena and Borias decided not to have a child, then Solan would never of been born. So then, Hope wouldn’t of killed Solan! But then, Xena came to Britannia to fight Caesar all because of the betrayal as portrayed in “Destiny”.
So, I dunno. The rift was confusing but I survived it, all the hate, anger, then the love — yup, I survived it and I’m proud of it.

It was uncomfortable to watch and it almost wrecked the show for me…somehow the magic between the characters seemed to be lost. It was good from a dramatic standpoint and I know that any relationship suffers its share of “rifts” but this was a little extreme. I still love the show and probably always will but I’m glad the relationship seems to be going in a more positive direction and Xena and Gabrielle have become stronger both individually and together. I guess the “rift” served its purpose…the characters have both grown from it…but I’m glad it’s over!

Hummm, well, I have a lot of views on this particular ep! I mean, there was a lot of things that took place, before the ep, that lead Xena and Gabrielle to where they were! I can see both sides! I mean if you have kids, you know how much you love them, regardless if they are evil, however, Xena is rarely wrong, she just doesn’t always handle things right, hell who does!!! 🙂
Anyway, revenge, and the need to be accepted, fit in, or find peace in yourself, will get you in trouble, more often than not! Try to look at what you have, and not focus on what you do not! You might be surprised what you see! There are a lot more things I could say about this episode.
Well, maybe I shouldn’t have said that neither was at fault!! I mean “all consequences are your own creation, and there’s a price you must pay”, but, it doesn’t really help when you have “certain god’s” involved either! My heart was broken at the end of ” Maternal Instinct’s “, OUCH!!!
But, you could not very well blame either woman, I mean by the god’s, this was their children we were talking about after all!! However, the first clue Gab should have had, that Hope WAS indeed evil, was the way, and the rapidness, of her pregnancy! But, when it comes to your kidz, your judgement can be a little off! And Xena, should not have blamed Gab for Solan’s death. Guilt over your action’s of the past will get you nothing but heartache, plus, Xena knows all too well what kind of heart Gab has! She always wants to give people the benefit of the doubt, after all, she used her many skill’s to get to Xena!! 🙂
The whole scene where Gab is being dragged behind Argo made me cringe! I kept peeking through my hands, that were over my eye’s! LOL. I mean Gab is not always the best judge of character, but, Xena is always quick to judge people too quickly! So, why did she feel the need to kill her soulmate? ARES! Who else. And that whole “hate thing” with Gab in the Amazon hut,
………CALLISTO! See what I mean? These ladies did not have a chance!
But, Gab’s jealousy has gotten her in trouble before! You can’t blame her though, I mean after all she DOES worship Xena, and she is not a vindictive person! If you love someone, like Gab loves Xena and vice versa, but, never really can prove it or show it enough, it can be very frustrating!!!! Emotion’s suck, but, that is part of being human! The old cliché’ goes….”You always lash out, on/at the one you love the MOST”!
Anger, death, and the feeling of being betrayed, are powerful tool’s, not to mention, dangerous! One thing we all should learn in life, and this ep proved, is that lie’s will get you nothing but, trouble! As will the need for revenge, no matter what the reason, it will cause nothing but chaos everytime!!! I think that this was a great test, on a beautiful relationship! But, if they could/would be more open to their feeling’s for each other, then these kind of thing’s would not happen….well, maybe not at all, but, it would sure make thing’s different! The “HATE IS THE STAR SONG”, said it all! When will these two finally admit that, they complete one another?
Well, there it is! I loved this ep, cringed a lot, but, I loved it!
My homepage is still under construction, so if you wanna email me, please do.

I think the lies and deception of both of them is to blame for the rift. But they showed that good friends settle their differences and life goes on.
