AppleTV+ has officially ordered a new series called Wool, based on the dystopian novel series by Hugh Howey. The series will star Rebecca Ferguson, known for her roles in Dune and the Mission: Impossible franchise. Ferguson will also serve as an executive producer on the project.
Wool presents a bleak vision of the future, where humanity survives in a giant underground silo spanning hundreds of stories deep. In this toxic and devastated world, a rigid society with stringent rules has been established, believed by its inhabitants to be for their protection. Rebecca Ferguson is set to play the character of Juliette, an independent and hardworking engineer.
The series has been on a long journey towards production. Originally self-published by Howey, who was a bookstore employee in 2011, the rights to the books were optioned by 20th Century Fox in 2012. The project saw Ridley Scott and Steve Zaillian attached at one point and previously underwent development at cable network AMC with LaToya Morgan as the potential adaptor.
The series adaptation for AppleTV+ will be penned by Graham Yost, the creator of Justified and a writer on Apple’s Masters of the Air. Morten Tyldum, known for his work on Defending Jacob, will direct the series. Alongside Ferguson, Yost, and Tyldum, Hugh Howey will also serve as an executive producer, joined by Remi Aubuchon, Nina Jack, and Ingrid Escajeda.
More details about the series release and additional casting are yet to be announced. With a riveting storyline and a talented team on and off the screen, Wool is set to be a compelling addition to the AppleTV+ roster.
