Netflix’s explosive Korean series Squid Game is returning for a second season. The thrilling K-Drama that captured the world’s attention with its intense and brutal games is expected to return with even more excitement and suspense.
When is Squid Game Season Two coming out?
According to Lee Jung-jae, the series’ breakout star, the second season of Squid Game began filming in the summer of 2023 and is expected to last about ten months due to its larger scale. This implies that fans can anticipate the return of their favourite blood-thirsty K-Drama in the latter half of 2024.
Who’s coming back for Squid Game Season Two?
Considering the lethal nature of the Squid Game, only a few familiar faces are expected in the upcoming season. However, Seong Gi-hun (Lee Jung-jae), who survived the deadly game, is confirmed to return. Additionally, Wi Ha-jun will reprise his role as police detective Jun-ho.
The new season will introduce new players, including Park Gyu-young, Jo Yu-ri, Kang Ae-sim, Lee David, Lee Jin-uk, Choi Seung-hyun (aka TOP), Roh Jae-won, and Won Ji-an. Previous players like Park Hae-soo, Oh Yeong-su, and Jung Hoyeon might make a comeback, but likely in flashbacks as Gi-hun takes on the games once again.
What will happen in Squid Game Season Two?
In the first season, Gi-hun managed to beat the game against all odds. But the game isn’t over yet. With the Squid Game creator’s death, Gi-hun discovers that the competition is still going on with new recruits.
As a result, the second season is expected to focus on Gi-hun’s quest to stop the game. Lee Jung-jae, the actor who portrays Gi-hun, confirmed this, stating that Gi-hun will play in the arena again.
However, it’s hard to imagine how Gi-hun could defeat the game’s creators, even with his newfound wealth. The second season is expected to add new layers to his character arc, particularly as he might have to get his hands dirty this time.
Another interesting plot point is Gi-hun’s bright red hair, which he dyed in the final episode of the first season. According to Hwang Dong-hyuk, the creator of the series, the hair colour represents his rage and the impossibility of returning to his old self.
Is there a trailer for Squid Game Season Two?
Currently, there’s no trailer for season two of Squid Game. Filming has yet to finish, so a release date is a long way off. However, given the popularity and massive success of the first season, we can expect something much, much more elaborate in the second season.
