The universe of Isaac Asimov’s iconic “Foundation” series continues to expand in the world of Apple TV Plus. The tech giant recently announced that it has renewed the ambitious sci-fi series for a third season, much to the delight of its growing fanbase.
Foundation, which first premiered in 2021, is based on the classic stories penned by master science fiction writer Isaac Asimov. It quickly positioned itself as one of the most ambitious series on Apple TV Plus, featuring a lush, expansive epic narrative and a star-studded cast that includes Lee Pace, Jared Harris, and Lou Llobell.
Despite its slow start, the first season was a meticulous exercise in world-building. It took on the challenging task of setting the stage for an expansive universe, a task that showrunner David S. Goyer admits was burdensome. However, with the heavy lifting of exposition out of the way, the series found its footing in the second season.
As Goyer stated ahead of the Season 2 premiere, “I just felt like this massive weight had been lifted from our shoulders. We were unburdened by all of this expositional pipe-laying.”
The third season promises to be even more thrilling, with the stakes for the Foundation and Empire rising even higher. Excitingly, the character Mule and fan favourites Bayta, Toran, Ebling, and Magnifico Giganticus will be moving to the centre stage.
In a statement, Goyer expressed his excitement about the continuation of the series: “I’m thrilled Apple has given us the opportunity to continue chronicling Asimov’s pioneering galactic saga.”
Although there aren’t many details yet on what to expect or when to expect it, announcing a third season affirms the series’ success and is a testament to the captivating power of Asimov’s universe. The third season of Foundation is set to continue the series’ tradition of delivering a compelling narrative, rich in depth and complexity, staying true to the spirit of its source material.
Stay tuned for more updates on the third season of Foundation as we eagerly anticipate its return to our screens.
