Gaius Charles will play a lead role opposite Lauren Cohan and Jeffrey Dean Morgan in AMCs Isle of the Dead, the New York-set spinoff from The Walking Dead.
Isle of the Dead follows Maggie (Cohan) and Negan (Morgan) through a post-apocalyptic Manhattan. The crumbling city is filled with the dead and inhabitants who have created their own world full of anarchy, danger, beauty, and terror.
Best known as Brian ‘Smash’ Williams on Friday Night Lights, Gaius Charles will portray Perlie Armstrong: as bold, ruthless, and unyielding in his pursuit of what he believes to be justice with the force of his will. Perlie enjoys his work and intersperses humour with the terror he incites. This family man is devoted to building a safe world for his wife and daughters. His journey reveals a loss he is haunted by. He has patience and resilience and walks rather than runs from his mistakes.
Charles’ recent television credits include guest/recurring roles on The Wonder Years, Queens and Roswell, New Mexico. The Grey’s Anatomy and Taken actor can currently be seen on the big screen in Krystin Ver Linden’s debut feature Alice, which world premiered at the recent Sundance Film Festival, and in Land of Dreams, premiering at this year’s Tribeca Film Festival.
The six-episode series is set to launch on AMC and AMC+ in 2023.
Isle of the Dead is the just the latest spinoff in the TWD universe; Fear the Walking Dead was recently renewed for an eighth season, The Walking Dead: World Beyond ran for two seasons, anthology series Tales of the Walking Dead is set to launch this year, and a series featuring Norman Reedus and Melissa McBride recently hit a setback when it was announced that McBride would not be continuing with the project due to issues with the location. The yet to be titled series will be filmed in Europe.
