Matt Smith thanks Doctor Who fans for National TV Awards Win

23 January, 2014 by PashaO

Matt Smith and the Doctor Who team were big winners at the National TV Awards at London’s O2 Arena on Wednesday. The show picked up the prize for Best Drama, with Matt’s Doctor taking home the award for Best Drama Performance. Yay!!

Matt was unable to attend the event as he is currently appearing in American Psycho on the West End stage. His co-star Jenna Coleman and show runner Steven Moffat accepted the award instead.

Matt posted a video paying tribute to his fellow actors and thanked fans for ‘the most brilliant time’ in a special video message after winning Award.

‘Thank you for this wonderful, marvellous award. It’s an honour to be in the same category as such fine, esteemed, wondrous actors,’ Matt, who bowed out of Doctor Who last year, began.

‘I’m sorry I can’t be there to collect it in person. I would of but I’m doing a play – I’m backstage at the moment.
‘Thank you to everyone who voted. You made my time on Who the best and the most brilliant and the most audacious part of my career to date. So thank you I am forever grateful. Have a great night, enjoy the party. Bye!’

Since 2005, Doctor Who has been nominated a whopping 24 times and won a grand total of 16 times. Matt has won once before in 2012 for Most Popular Drama Performance.
