Warner Bros. and DC executives held an emergency meeting on 30 March to discuss Ezra Miller’s future with the studio following his recent arrest for disorderly conduct and harassment. It was agreed that any future projects involving Miller, including possible appearances in the DC Extended Universe, would be paused.
Before Andy Muschietti was selected to direct The Flash, the project was stuck in development hell for years. After filming wrapped on 18 October, The Flash was originally scheduled to premiere in November 2022 before being postponed to 23 June 2023.
According to Rolling Stone, an inside source said that Miller had “frequent meltdowns” during production last year on The Flash. While the insider stresses there were no yelling or violent outbursts, they described Miller as “losing it.” “Ezra would get a thought in [their] head and say, ‘I don’t know what I’m doing.'”
The studio has over a year to decide whether or not to greenlight a potential sequel to The Flash. Warner Bros. has moved the Andrés Muschietti-helmed first instalment of The Flash from 4 November 2022 to 23 June 2023.
Several troubling incidents have occurred in connection with Miller in recent years. A video appeared on social media in April 2020 showing the actor choking a woman in the Prikið Kaffihús bar in Iceland.
More recent incidents include the actor being arrested for yelling obscenities in a bar in Hawaii. Following that incident, a local couple filed a temporary restraining order against Miller on 29 March. The couple claimed that after Miller’s arrest, Miller burst into their bedroom and threatened them, with Miller saying to the man, “I will burry [sic] you and your slut wife,” according to the police report. The petition also alleges that Miller stole the woman’s passport and the man’s wallet, which included a social security card, driver’s license and bank cards.
Earlier this year, Miller posted a video on Instagram threatening the North Carolina Ku Klux Klan chapter.
Miller was fortunate not to have been kicked off Secrets of Dumbledore like castmate Johnny Depp, who lost his libel case against a British tabloid, which had referred to the actor as a “wife beater.”
Could Miller be experiencing burnout? After all, he shot Fantastic Beasts and The Flash back to back in London in the autumn of 2020 and spring of 2021, respectively.
